It didn’t bother Ana, but Jack seemed to be laboring. In the shade of one of the massive, derelict cooling towers, the heat from the oppressive afternoon sun was a little more tolerable. Where it looked the worst, his flesh had turned necrotic and black. She could already see the pink of new skin forming at the edges, but not completely. His wounds could heal themselves-a legacy of his past as a test subject and an enhanced soldier in the American armed forces. From that range, it should have killed him, but Jack had certain advantages. As she took a closer look, she could see that the jacket and his flesh had been ripped apart by a shotgun blast. Jack had been shot right beneath the giant numerals “76” on his jacket. Remember that Moira gave herself the same style of powers as Reaper, but she has none of the other issues that he does. But Reaper refers to Moira as “a friend” when he’s in Oasis and he continues to visit her, so although he doesn’t understand why he’s in pain he has a certain amount of trust that she can do something about it, or at least keep him from falling completely apart. And Overwatch’s fault, if they found the very dead-looking body of an international disgrace and dumped him in a morgue or a grave somewhere with little fanfare, leaving him to be dug up by Moira.Īnother possibility is that Moira’s therapies started throwing errors over time, or the original issue resurfaced despite therapy. Either way, according to Reaper, this would ultimately be Jack’s fault. Or his present state could be the result of Moira making additional stretches to his genetic code to ensure he got up. For example, when he and Jack fought at Overwatch HQ and the HQ exploded. It’s not actually clear that he “chose” to become a smoke monster.Īnd whatever is wrong with him now could have come about when his powers were placed under extreme stress. We don’t know if the fear he feels in that Origin Story image is because of something Moira is doing to him or because of the genetics issue he already had that is revealing itself during her tests (or manifesting in a new way after her modifications). There was no change in his appearance or skin color at that time. He says as much during the Retribution mission. Gabriel was fine after Moira’s initial therapies. Then why the hell he was blaming OW for what happened to him? When he encounter Ana he said that OW did it to him? Yet he chose to side with moira and Talon when he knew the genetic Overmutation was her fault? I just dont get it. Moira: No need to thank me, I only saved your life.Reaper: Why am I being subjected to this agony?.Moira: Your body seems to be adapting well to the changes, Gabriel. In a recent voice line between Moira and Reaper:.Reaper blames Overwatch for “leaving to suffer.”.They are pale white, and very corpselike. We can also seen what looks like part of his arms on his default skin. His body is grotesque, disturbing Ana when she sees his face. His victims are drained of life or left with necrotic wounds (as seen in Bastet) and he can control his ability to go into his Wraith Form at will (pretty much every appearance he has made as Reaper.) All of these happen in the present day, with the oldest at Recall. He has executed a number of ex-Overwatch agents already. Reaper has appeared numerous times crossing guns with ex-Overwatch agents as well as other foes as a member of Talon.~6 years ago, there is the Swiss HQ Incident.During her time in Blackwatch (presumably before Retribution) we see Moira experimenting on Reyes, but with the black smoke we associate with Reaper emanating from his body.8 years ago, Retribution, we have dialogue that shows Moira has already been working on Reyes’ body. Before Overwatch, >30 years ago, Reyes was part of the Soldier Enhancement Program, which altered his physiology. Some of them may be related, some may not. Its mostly a mystery, but we have a bunch of puzzle pieces.
